BOC’s multi-million pound site upgrade
BOC, the specialist gas provider, is to install a new state-of-the-art air separation unit at its Motherwell site, replacing aging equipment that includes a unit built more than 35 years ago.
The multi-million pound investment, which includes an award from Scottish Enterprise under its Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) programme, will secure the jobs of more than 40 local staff as well as helping to maintain global competitiveness within the Scottish economy.
Planning permission for the construction work has been granted and, with the work due for completion by autumn next year, the site will soon be more efficient, quieter to operate and will have a reduced carbon footprint.
The site remains the only source of liquefied air gases in Scotland and is a vital supplier to large sections of the Scottish economy, from offshore oil exploration and renewable energy, through engineering and chemicals to aquaculture.
Mike Huggon, Managing Director of BOC, said: “This investment is a further demonstration of our commitment to Scotland, following our investment in a purpose-built cylinder filling and distribution centre in Glasgow. The new Motherwell facility will enable us to continue to serve the Scottish economy as it builds on its strengths in engineering and technology.”
RSA funding aims to encourage businesses to undertake investment that will directly result in the creation or safeguarding of jobs in Scotland.
