Marott Graphic Services, the specialist chemicals producer for the printing industry, is set to mark 30 successful years in the industry by expanding into the automotive and industrial sectors and creating new jobs.
New job plans for Marot Graphic Services
Since being founded in the Netherlands 30 years ago before relocating to Scotland in 1989, Dunbar-based Marott Graphic Services has produced chemicals for some of the world’s most advanced printing presses.
And the company has marked the occasion by revealing plans to expand into the automotive and industrial sectors, in a move that will increase its staff base by 50 percent.
The business will update its XCP range to include maintenance, lubrication and protection products for the car industry, factory maintenance departments, tradesman’s toolkits and “garden shed” users at home.
A new division, XCP Corrosion Technologies, has been set up to drive the expansion, which will see the firm’s headcount rise to 18 from 12.
Marott managing director Scott Sutherland says he remains confident of growing the firm’s share of the printing industry too.
“There is perhaps a perception today that the print media is on the way out when compared with digital media,” he explains. “However, print is now a thoroughly cross-media industry, employing and interacting with digital technology at every stage. The industry will continue to develop.”
Marott was launched in 1981 in the Netherlands by Sutherland’s parents, Ian and Sheila, and moved to the UK in 1989. The firm re-located to purpose-built facilities in Dunbar in 2008.
Sandy Dobbie, chairman of Chemical Sciences Scotland, said: “Marott’s expansion plans are a terrific vote of confidence in Scotland and will create skilled jobs.”
