SBRI competition - Non destructive evaluation of munitions

Date: 22 November 2012

The Weapons Domain in the Defence Science and Technology Programme Office is launching an SBRI competition through the Centre for Defence Enterprise for innovative proposals in any area of weapons systems that help to reduce cost, weight and volume and to increase life, performance and modularity.

Applications are sought specifically in the area of non destructive evaluation of munitions.

Proof of concept proposals are sought for novel techniques to determine properties such as strain, stress, density, porosity, etc. throughout the energetic formulation(s) as well as evidence of cracking and wall separation without the need to destroy the munition.

The energetic formulation may be housed in munitions with metal or composite cases from 1mm to 10mm.

Details of the problem area and the desired outcomes will be presented at a seminar to be held at Harwell, Oxford, on 8 January 2013.

The competition will open on this date. Companies are strongly advised to attend the seminar to hear first hand the military challenges.

The call will close on 19 February 2013.
