Raising Finance for Renewable Energy
Co-operatives are a proven approach to raising finance. Scotland's communities could also benefit from this investment model. Co-operatives offer ownership of renewable energy projects to ordinary people, through public share offers open to all. Projects may be structured to ensure a minimum level of community benefit.
Benefits of a co-operative approach
- The community may raise the majority of equity from its own resources
- Running the project will build community capacity, responsibility and self reliance
- The project will contribute towards the Government’s renewable energy targets
