Our leadership team is responsible for the day to day running of the business. Working with teams across the organisation, delivery partners and our Board, the team ensures we are on track to deliver success for Scotland.
Adrian Gillespie, Chief Executive
As Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise, Scotland’s national economic development agency, Adrian leads an organisation focused on transforming Scotland’s economy by helping businesses innovate, scale and compete internationally, and by attracting new investment into Scotland. Working with companies, investors, universities and other partners across Scotland, and around the world through its international arm, Scottish Development International, Scottish Enterprise aims to grow a more productive, resilient and net zero economy.
Previously, Adrian was the University of Strathclyde's first Chief Commercial Officer, where he led industry engagement and helped develop major initiatives including new industrial centres and innovation districts, such as the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland and the Glasgow City Innovation District. Before that, he spent 16 years at Scottish Enterprise in a range of senior leadership roles including digital technologies, deep tech and energy, and was latterly Managing Director of Operations.
He holds degrees from the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde, including an MBA with Distinction.
Jane Martin, Managing Director of Regional Economic Development Partnerships
Jane leads Scottish Enterprise’s work to strengthen its regional economic development contribution across Scotland, working with partners to determine where Scottish Enterprise can help drive transformational growth. She provides system-level leadership, with the aim of creating a coherent national-regional proposition for economic development in partnership with Scottish Government and key stakeholders.
A member of Scottish Enterprise’s Executive Leadership Team since 2015, Jane took up her current post in August 2026. Her previous roles have included leading Scottish Enterprise’s innovation and investment operations, business engagement and support services, grant funding operations, digital transformation, service design, marketing and communications in Scotland and internationally.
Jane holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Glasgow. She is Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees at Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
Gill McNeill, Chief People Officer of People, Digital and Communications
Gill leads our People, Digital and Communications function, bringing together services which are critical to ensuring Scottish Enterprise is in the best shape to deliver our ambitions for Scotland’s economy.
Working together, our digital and data capabilities alongside Human Resources, Corporate Affairs & Marketing collectively allow us to deliver the environment we need to be successful today, as well as shaping our future approach.
Before joining Scottish Enterprise, Gill was Head of People Services at Virgin Money, where she was responsible for leading multi-site colleague services and operations.
She is an experienced HR leader who has held a variety of senior roles across multiple organisations including BAE Systems, Leidos and Lloyds Banking Group.
Rhona Allison, Managing Director, Company Growth and Scaling Innovation
Rhona leads Scottish Enterprise’s national efforts to help ambitious businesses start, scale and compete globally. She drives our engagement with growth companies, overseeing specialist business support, account management, entrepreneurship and high-growth ventures to accelerate innovation, investment, productivity and exports.
Rhona chairs the Business Support Partnership Programme, bringing together Scotland's enterprise, skills and public-sector partners to deliver a more integrated and effective business support system. As Executive Leadership Team sponsor for Scaling Innovation, she leads Scottish Enterprise's mission to increase the number of scale-up businesses in Scotland, creating higher-value jobs and driving sustainable economic growth.
With a background spanning global corporates, fast-growing SMEs and the life sciences sector, Rhona has led major initiatives to strengthen Scotland's innovation ecosystem, accelerate commercialisation of research and foster impactful collaboration between industry, academia and the public sector. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Life Sciences.
Kerry Sharp, Chief Finance and Investment Officer
As Scottish Enterprise’s first Chief Finance and Investment Officer, Kerry’s leadership encompasses financial and corporate governance, strategy, performance, and the attraction of new investment to Scotland. Her team is responsible for efficient financial management, the preparation of Scottish Enterprise’s annual accounts, the development and embedding of risk management policies and processes, and the evolution of the corporate strategy. They ensure these services are delivered effectively to support the organisation's ambitions for the Scottish economy.
Kerry also spearheads efforts to galvanize organisational skills, assets, and expertise to maximise external investment into Scottish companies, projects, infrastructure, and industrial assets. She is a qualified accountant and chartered banker, a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. Since joining Scottish Enterprise in 2006, Kerry has held various roles, most recently leading our teams that support high-growth, innovative companies through tailored advice, funding, and commercial equity investment. Prior to her tenure at Scottish Enterprise, she worked in venture capital and corporate banking in the private sector. Kerry holds a BA (Hons) in Accountancy.
Kerry has also served on various advisory boards, including the London Co-investment Fund, Converge, and Fintech Scotland.
Reuben Aitken, Managing Director, Investment and International
Reuben leads Scottish Enterprise’s investment and international portfolios. His team of over 300 across 22 countries is focused on bringing the best companies to Scotland, taking the best of Scotland to the world and helping Scottish Companies compete on the global stage. He leads on attracting foreign direct investment into Scotland, increasing Scotland’s exports and driving forward capital investment into the fabric of the Scottish economy.
He is also responsible for Scottish enterprise’s investment portfolio of scaling companies where Scottish Enterprise has invested on behalf of Scotland, resulting in a company portfolio valued at over £375 million. He oversees Scottish Enterprise’s property portfolio valued at over £170 million.
Reuben is a former diplomat with experience from Brussels to Brazil. He has worked on economic, energy and infrastructure policy and regulation in Whitehall and has led EU and UN negotiations. He was an energy regulator and policy maker in Westminster before he led on trade policy at the Scottish Government. During the pandemic, he led the delivery of Scotland’s multi-billion-pound business support package. Reuben is a Cambridge scholar and can get by in four languages.
Jan Robertson, Managing Director of Energy Transition and Transformational Programmes
Jan leads Scottish Enterprise’s work to unlock the innovation, investment and infrastructure needed to capitalise on Scotland's biggest economic opportunities. This includes leading Scotland's energy transition mission and leading our role in major industrial transformation programmes – including Grangemouth and the North East, helping to secure a more competitive, sustainable and resilient economic future for Scotland.
Prior to her current role, Jan held a number of senior leadership positions within Scottish Enterprise, including Director of Global Trade at Scottish Development International and Head of Investment Management. Through these roles, she led teams across Scotland and internationally to help Scottish companies grow in global markets, providing market intelligence, international connections, investment support and access to finance to accelerate business growth, innovation and internationalisation.
Before joining Scottish Enterprise, Jan worked as a corporate finance adviser with KPMG and EY and also held roles in industry and banking, supporting companies across a range of sectors and international markets. This combination of experience across economic development, international trade, investment and corporate finance provides Jan with a broad perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing Scotland's economy.
