Our initiatives
We support the development of the aerospace, defence and marine industry in Scotland through a series of initiatives and programmes which include:
Scottish Marine Technologies Training Project (SMTTP)
The SMTTP aims to secure support and coordinate activities of multiple agencies in the engagement, recruitment and training of the shipbuilding and marine industry.
The re-skilling of the workforce will ensure there is no shortage of engineering apprentices in the coming decade, and will also help to meet the needs of related sectors with identified skills shortages such as Naval Ship Refit, Renewable Energy and Marine Energy.
Maritime Recruitment Campaign
The campaign aims to boost the number of new recruits entering the Merchant Navy in Scotland by promoting the maritime sector as an established, quality, long-term career choice for young Scots.

People and business
Working with the Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service (SMAS), industry bodies, academia, and skills councils, we provide consistent and relevant skills, leadership and best practice programmes. SMAS provides manufacturing firms of all sizes with expert advice, one-to-one support, training and events.

Innovation
A number of Scottish companies and universities are involved in significant research and development projects. Current activities focus on unmanned aerial vehicles, composites and 21st century supply chains. The programmes will strengthen Scotland’s reputation as a hub of innovation and creativity, and include those supporting the National Aerospace Technology Strategy (NATS), and the calls from the Technology Strategy Board, as well as company specific projects.
