Braveheart was formed in 1997 by four Scottish businessmen as a co-investment vehicle to pool their money and knowledge, increase diversification and also reduce risk.
Braveheart makes investments in young, emerging, unlisted companies with potential for significant growth, through the successful commercialisation of intellectual property. Investments are a mix of technology and more traditional businesses and range from start-up companies to businesses in pre-listing situations.
Each year out of several hundred business plans received, around ten investments are made. These opportunities emanate from Braveheart's network of contacts, which includes its own clients, and close relationships with science parks and universities.
An executive team of eight build and manage private equity portfolios for around 100 high net worth individuals and corporations. Braveheart also operates discreet funds such as the Alpha EIS Fund and the SMART Equity Fund.
