Digital Media Quarter, Pacific Quay
The Digital Media Quarter @ Pacific Quay presents a unique opportunity to create a highly distinctive, dedicated business location for Scotland’s digital media industries.
The project is a key initiative in Scottish Enterprise’s strategy for the digital markets sector, which aims to develop Scotland's involvement in key growth markets enabled by digital content and technologies. The Digital Media Quarter is designed to attract a diverse range of digital businesses such as content developers and providers, broadcasters and publishers, communication technology companies and R&D institutions. The Digital Media Quarter will help to promote wider collaboration in the sector, creating the potential for stronger and more sustainable strategic partnerships. It will appeal to companies at a local and international level and offers an opportunity for Glasgow to provide a world-class business location for one of the fastest growing sectors in the economy.
The site, which extends to around five hectares, is Scottish Enterprise’s last remaining landholding at Pacific Quay, one of the flagship projects in the regeneration of Glasgow’s Clyde Waterfront. The Pacific Quay development will feature a wide range of uses including business, leisure and tourism, cultural and residential. Key anchor tenants on Pacific Quay include BBC Scotland, which features the most advanced broadcasting centre in Europe, Scottish Television, Glasgow Science Centre, XFM Scotland and Film City Glasgow.
The masterplan for the Digital Media Quarter makes provision for around 30,000m2 of built development. To support the creation of this new media community, the proposals also include amenity uses such as retail and commercial leisure as well as new floorspace for business. Scottish Enterprise is delivering the Digital Media Quarter in partnership with the private sector via the provision of serviced plots for development, on a bespoke or speculative basis.
The first speculative development on the Digital Media Quarter was completed in April 2008 - the Medius building provides 2,430m2 of modern open plan flexible business space and is now available for immediate occupation. A second development, the Hub, is currently under development and will provide 6,800m2 of business and amenity space. The Hub will bring a new dimension to the DMQ with its flexible managed workspace providing added value services which will allow its tenants to focus on their core activities of business growth and wealth creation. Glasgow School of Art’s Digital Design Studio (DDS) has already committed its future to the Hub and will move into the new facility in February 2009.
The Digital Media Quarter is now gathering real momentum and Scottish Enterprise is confident of procuring a pipeline of new developments to meet the demands of this rapidly growing sector.
