Decommissioning opportunities

Decommissioning will become a major opportunity for Scotland’s energy supply chain.

Because the market is still in its infancy, it is still not certain what the total size of the market will be, and when it will develop. One thing we can be sure of, however, is that the cost of decommissioning will be very high.

It is estimated that the total UK continental shelf spend for Oil and Gas decommissioning is likely to be over £20 billion, while the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) estimates UK nuclear liabilities at £50 billion.

This provides significant opportunities for Scotland’s energy companies (and companies in many other sectors) to establish a major market share and deliver cost effective and innovative solutions to these decommissioning opportunities.
