Record year for Edinburgh

The University of Edinburgh has strengthened its position as Scotland's leading research institution by earning a record £210 million to fund its research in 2006/07 – an increase of 50 percent on last year.

Our aim is to continue inventing the modern world through our unique alliance of seven science and technology parks.

The idea behind the Edinburgh Science Triangle concept is to encourage active collaboration between the seven different parks and promote the exchange of ideas and expertise to further scientific development.

The potential presented by such an approach is unrivalled – especially in exploiting the opportunities provided by converging sciences.

The location and close proximity of each park is another attractive feature of the Triangle. You can travel between all of the parks in less than an hour.

As one of the 20 largest science parks in the world, our experience stretches back to 1971 with Europe’s first science park at Heriot Watt. Since then, we’ve grown from strength to strength and it’s our ambition to be one of the top 10 research and development locations in Europe.

Our expertise spans life sciences including genomics, bioinformatics, animal health and stem cell research; microelectronics (including ‘system on chip’ technology and design); petroleum discovery and extraction technology; brewing and distilling.

What’s more, we boast an international reputation in several sectors, including world-firsts, like ‘Dolly’, the first cloned mammal developed at the Roslin Institute.

For modern, progressive scientific organisations, the Triangle offers the chance to be part of a truly diverse and dynamic scientific community and there is the opportunity to take products from initial design right through to market.

Locating at any one of the seven parks opens the door to a wealth of knowledge and skills held across the entire scientific spectrum as well as welcoming you into a supportive, inclusive community.

Furthermore, with first-class infrastructure and accommodation, a skilled workforce and easy access to world-leading education and research resources, the Edinburgh Science Triangle provides an exceptional and exciting location for you to conduct business.
