Low Carbon

Scotland has an ambitious target to reduce its CO2 emissions by 42% by 2020. In working towards this target, our Low Carbon Economic Strategy highlights the need to make the most out of these opportunities.

By 2020, Scotland aims to:

  • Reduce our energy use by 12% through resource efficiency
  • Produce 80% of our electricity, 11% of our heat production and 10% of transport from renewable sources
  • Increase the market value of our low carbon and environmental goods and services sector
  • Create 60,000 green jobs
  • Ensure that carbon impact is fully factored into strategic and local planning decisions

Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International have key roles to play in delivering the high value low carbon economic opportunities which offer the best return on investment for our economy, the environment and society.
