Journey to Silicon Valley

An insider’s view of some of the world’s top organisations, including Microsoft and Gap, was part of a recent Scottish Enterprise Leadership Learning Journey. Leaders from a dozen businesses joined the intensive week-long trip to California. One of them was Simon Burges of Glasgow-based BiP Solutions.

Did the trip deliver on your expectations?

Absolutely. It was a chance to hear honest insights from people at the top of some of the world’s most successful companies – such as Microsoft and Gap – as well as some lesser-known names. I don’t believe you could experience anything like it in this country.

What was your leadership style before the programme?

As a finance person by background, I’m very process and system driven. I analyse everything and make decisions based on fact. As a Managing Director, that general approach is the same: the step change for me was being able to take everyone else with me on the vision for the business.
