Sector experience
A breadth of expertise
Scotland’s life sciences industry includes expertise across a broad spectrum of life science disciplines. The life sciences community here includes biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, contract research organisations, medical device and diagnostic companies, along with specialist suppliers and support organisations.
The industry has developed a particularly strong reputation in a number of areas including:
- Cancer and cardiovascular research
- Neuroscience
- Genomics
- Proteomics and bioinformatics
- Signal transduction biology
- Stem cell research and regenerative technology
- Virology and immunology
Despite the apparent diversity of the industry it is a well formed community brought together under the umbrella of Life Sciences Scotland. Life Sciences Scotland, which comprises industry, academia, the health service, financial institutions, the Scottish Government and Scottish Enterprise, helps to increase innovation from our academic centres of excellence as well as support individual company growth.
