Pathway Medicine is an exciting new approach to biomedical research, in the understanding of how genes and molecules interact at a physiological level.

Edinburgh's research community has an established strong position in this field. Its universities are working in partnership with pathway medicine companies including Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and the Division of Pathway Medicine, led by Professor Peter Ghazal - a leading post-genomic researcher.

The MRC Human Genetics Unit’s role is to advance the understanding of genetic factors implicated in human disease and normal and abnormal development. Research areas - developmental genetics, chromosome biology and models for human genetic diseases.

Division of Pathway Medicine

A centre of excellence whose central goal is to integrate post-genomic science with medicine, in order to provide a better mechanism based understanding of disease processes.  Research areas – pathway biology of infection and immunity, and biochip medicine in systemic response to disease.

ARK – Genomics

A leader in farm animal functional genomics, and home to the largest collection of farm animal EST clones available in the world. Based at the world famous Roslin Institute. Research areas - farm animal genomics and genetics.

Innogen

The ESRC Centre for Social and Economic Research on Innovation in Genomics and part of the ESRC Genomics Network. Research areas - the evolution of genomics and life sciences and their far-reaching social and economic implications.
