Record year for Edinburgh

The University of Edinburgh has strengthened its position as Scotland's leading research institution by earning a record £210 million to fund its research in 2006/07 – an increase of 50 percent on last year.

Scotland’s first dedicated, national biomanufacturing campus.

Biocampus is a 25 acre flagship development, custom-designed to meet the needs of companies involved in the specialist manufacture of next generation biotechnology-related products.  Biocampus provides an integrated environment that’s fully equipped to support cGMP biomanufacturing. The location combines the availability of high quality skills and research with fast communications to provide biomanufacturers with the ideal conditions for growth.

Biocampus currently offers a £4m, 25,000 square feet advance cGMP manufacturing unit and a wide choice of  development plots and serviced land  for design and construction of bespoke facilities.  Outline planning has been granted to develop a further 13,500 square feet unit with 100 % expansion capability, the design of which is now complete.

Located just eight miles from Edinburgh City Centre the campus is set in attractive woodland in the heart of a world class biotech cluster, next to three research parks.

Edinburgh is well served by national road and rail networks and two ports, Leith and Grangemouth, which run direct freight routes to UK and European destinations. Edinburgh International Airport is 15 miles from Biocampus and is a major freight hub for the transportation of products within the regulated environment of the European Union and beyond.

Biocampus is owned by Scottish Enterprise, and part funded by the European Union Regional Development Fund. Through Scottish Enterprise, a wide range of infrastructure support and practical help is available to companies planning to relocate.
