Glasgow Southern General Hospital has led the world in brain trauma evaluation, developing the Glasgow Coma Score and is leading the way in innovative imaging of brain function. Dundee and Edinburgh Universities are leading the way in therapeutic research with target development and clinical capabilities.

Neuroscience imaging capabilities
Fundamental and clinical research is enhance by world class brain imaging facilities at the The SHEFC Brain Imaging Research Centre for Scotland, located in the Division of Clinical Neurosciences (DCN) at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh and the Institute of Neurological Sciences at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.

Collaborative ethos
A number of collaborative initiatives exist between neuroscience research groups in Scotland.

Sackler Institute of Psychobiological Research , a collaboration between the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, focused on neuropsychiatric disorders.

Yoshitomi Research Institute of Neuroscience in Glasgow (YRING), based at the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde, focussed on creating novel antipsychotic treatments for schizophrenia.
