Clinical expertise
Due to the incidence of cancer in Scotland, there is a strong network of experienced clinicians in the oncology field, conducting a large number of clinical trials. The Beatson Oncology Centre in Glasgow and the ISD in Edinburgh have been recently jointly awarded NCRI accreditation to co-ordinate oncology clinical trials, one of only three licenses in the UK.
National Translational Cancer Research Network
The National Translational Cancer Research Network (NTRAC) has been established to integrate the expertise of the bench researcher with the front-line clinician in a network of centres with the capability to support translational research. The principal aim of NTRAC is to build research infrastructure and workforce capacity that will support the advancement of novel anti-cancer therapeutics from the laboratory into the clinic and to test their promise in early clinical trials and diagnostics.
