Who can take part?
Get Ready for Work is open to 16 to 19 year-olds. All trainees are paid a training allowance.
What does it offer?
Get Ready for Work helps young people identify their individual needs and offer training in a number of skills.
For instance, a trainee might receive help with interview techniques or find out how to complete an application form or C.V. He or she might require some support with communication or computer skills – or simply want to build self-confidence to help in applying for jobs.
People taking part in the programme will get the chance to try out “work tasters” and work placements – helping them decide on the job that’s best for them.
How do you get involved?
Any young person who wants to take part should contact Careers Scotland (0845 8 502 502) for details. An adviser will discuss their goals and offer information on local training opportunities. The adviser will also make sure Get Ready for Work is the right programme for the trainee.
If your company wants to offer places for trainees, contact the Business Gateway - 0845 609 6611.
Is there any cost to take part?
No. The training is free of charge to participants. In fact, anyone taking part gets paid a training allowance of at least £55 per week if you take part on a full-time basis. Help with travel expenses may also be available.
