Life sciences strategy
A national strategy driving growth in the life sciences industry
Life Sciences Scotland represents all areas of the life sciences sector from industry and academia to healthcare and government. It has developed a comprehensive strategy - Scottish Life Sciences Strategy 2008. Its vision is that by 2020 Scotland will have:
“A globally focused, sustainable life sciences sector built on a fully connected national strategy that exploits strengths in scientific excellence, financial services and innovative business models, and that develops, retains and builds upon Scotland’s talents.”
Scottish Enterprise supports this strategy, particularly in those areas where the industry in general has limited experience and where our own expertise will have the greatest impact.
Our two principal aims in supporting the strategy are:
- To retain, build and attract the necessary world-class businesses which will contribute to the Life Sciences Scotland vision.
- To stimulate and attract new companies while supporting the existing company base.
We achieve these aims through a series of initiatives designed to improve skills within the sector, facilitate the provision of investment, support commercialisation and the provision of a world class infrastructure and to encourage collaboration.
