Pisys make their mark with new Digi-Pen system

Pisys Digi-PenAs companies look to make efficiency savings wherever they can, the time spent uploading data is coming under particular scrutiny.

Admin staff are constantly under pressure to quickly upload important data to back office computer systems and anything that can speed up this process would be of interest to any business.

Technology solutions such as PDAs with a screen that can be written on are already helping to ease the data burden but an Aberdeen-based company is set to make its mark in the world of data collection with the help of a technologically advanced pen.

Software company Pisys has developed a system designed to significantly cut the amount of time spent processing paperwork and reduce the need for manual inputting of data.

The Digi-Pens look and write on paper like any office biro but their advanced image recognition technology allows written information to be instantly transmitted to a back-end office system – saving the hours spent by admin staff typing in data from a hard copy.

“This is an easy to use, robust system that will help companies make significant time and cost savings,” says managing director Peter Henderson.

Pisys has developed the product using technology platforms licensed from Vision Objects and Anoto. The Digi-Pen could have applications in any number of industries, from tourism, hospitality and retail through to finance, agriculture and even the education system, where information gathered by teachers in the classroom can be immediately available to the school office.

National utility infrastructure firm Turriff Contractors has been involved in trialling the technology on behalf of Pisys.

“The Digi-Pens provide a technology-led means of operating our business with massive implications in terms of reducing our handling costs,” says managing director David Morrison.

“It was important for us to have user-friendly technology that allowed us to transfer data from multi-user sites. We can now have all the necessary information in our database in under a minute, reducing the number of times information has to be handled and, in turn, minimising the risk of human error.

“We have been so impressed by the impact the Digi-Pen has had on our business that we are rolling out the programme across the company.”
