Golf tourism

To encourage the sustainable development and growth of Scottish golf tourism, we provide the following support.

Strengthening industry leadership

To successfully develop and grow, Scottish golf tourism needs effective industry leadership and a mechanism to encourage collaboration between the many different providers.

Golf Tourism Scotland

In 2005 Golf Tourism Scotland was launched to:

  • represent golf tourism and take a leading role in the development of overall strategy for the industry, including being involved in specific public/private partnership activities;
  • develop, co-ordinate and implement a range of services that will benefit its members; and
  • drive forward the golf tourism industry in Scotland.

We have been helping this industry-led body with business planning and building its capacity to assume the role of lead private sector body for Scottish golf tourism.

Club Managers Association of Europe

The Club Managers Association of Europe has a valuable role to play in improving skills and professionalism in Scottish golf clubs, which will secure benefits for golf tourism in Scotland.

We facilitated the development of the Scottish Region of this association, which emerged from the long established Club Managers Association of America. Members are drawn from all types of members clubs and it aims to encourage professionalism and skills development.

National Golf Tourism Monitor

The National Golf Tourism Monitor collects and analyses weekly visitor rounds from around 70 courses across Scotland. Data is presented annually for different categories of courses and types of visitor.

The 2006 monitor provides details on rounds played, benchmark surveys, golf passes, accommodation providers, tour operators or visitor surveys.
