New event helps Scottish SMEs target Silicon Valley
A new event is set to connect Scottish technology start-ups and SMEs with knowledgeable potential investors and customers in Silicon Valley – an area where $9.9billion was invested last year by the region’s venture funds.
The inaugural Silicon Valley VComm Venture Fair and Technology Showcase will take place on 20 January next year.
There will be an opportunity for up to 15 Scottish companies to take part in the full VComm package, which includes elevator pitch training, third party endorsement of each pitch and pre-event investor preparation. There will also be a technology showcase running alongside the VC Fair, where up to 25 companies will be able to demonstrate their products or technologies to potential customers and partners.
“Scotland’s technology industries and universities are breeding grounds of talented entrepreneurs developing world-class products and technologies. Getting those products to global markets and developing technology companies of scale is becoming increasingly difficult,” says Colin Adams, director of commercialisation at the Edinburgh University School of Informatics.
“By taking our start-up and SME companies out to Silicon Valley to meet with key investors and by training and preparing them ahead of the event, the VComm Venture Fair takes the pain out of the decision for the VCs to invest, making it that much more valuable to all parties.”
