Looking into the future of energy
The creation of a new Aberdeen-based energy research centre reached a major milestone recently, with the appointment of an internationally-renowned research scientist as Chair.
Professor Hicham Idriss will bring his extensive knowledge of catalysis and surface science to the Energy Futures Research Centre, strengthening and complementing the research capacities of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon Universities.
Jointly funded by the two universities and Aberdeen City Council, the centre will conduct research into renewable and clean energy resources, with a view to developing alternative fuel supplies and sources.
“The new Energy Futures Research Centre will focus on vital research into renewable and clean energy sources such as solar, marine and wind power and biofuels,” says Professor Paul Mitchell, director of the Institute for Energy Technologies at Aberdeen University and one of the directors of the Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group.
“Further strengthening Aberdeen’s position as the global energy capital, the aim of the centre is to develop alternative sources of clean energy in line with the government’s energy research commitment which aims towards a low carbon future.”
