Initiatives

We support the development of the aerospace, defence and marine industry in Scotland through a series of initiatives and programmes.

Supply Chain 21 (SC21)

The continued competitiveness of the Scottish aerospace, defence and marine industry depends on a lean and motivated supply chain. SC21 will help deliver this by lowering the costs of doing business.

Scottish Marine Technologies Training Project (SMTTP)

The SMTTP aims to secure support and coordinate activities of multiple agencies in the engagement, recruitment and training of the shipbuilding and marine industry. The centre point of the project is the Future is Ship-shape website, providing information on careers in shipbuilding and engineering for people at various phases of their careers and education.

The re-skilling of the workforce will ensure there is no shortage of engineering apprentices in the coming decade, and will also help to meet the needs of related sectors with identified skills shortages such as Naval Ship Refit, Renewable Energy and Marine Energy.

Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service

Working with the Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service (SMAS), SMAS provides manufacturing firms of all sizes with expert advice, one-to-one support, training and events.

Innovation

A number of Scottish companies and universities are involved in significant research and development projects. Current activities focus on unmanned aerial vehicles, composites and 21st century supply chains. The programmes will strengthen Scotland’s reputation as a hub of innovation and creativity, and include those supporting the National Aerospace Technology Strategy (NATS), and the calls from the Technology Strategy Board, as well as company specific projects. Visit our innovation section for more information.
