Overview

Scotland has a thriving Creative Industries which contributes £2.4 billion to the Scottish economy and supports over 60,000 jobs.

In Scotland, the creative industries sector is made up of a number of sub-sectors: advertising; architecture; the art/antiques trade; crafts; design; designer fashion; video, film, music and photography; music and the visual and performing arts; publishing; computer games, software and electronic publishing; radio and television.

The Scottish Government Economic Strategy highlights the creative industries as one of the key sectors that represent the best opportunities for Scotland to raise the bar in terms of its economic performance. This key sector status is reflected in the Scottish Enterprise 2011-14 Business Plan. We are a member of the Scottish Creative Industries Partnership (SCIP). SCIP aligns public sector policy and intervention in addressing the needs and opportunities of the creative industries and in addition to Scottish Enterprise includes representatives from Scottish Local Government, Creative Scotland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

We also work closely with the Digital Media Industry Advisory Group (DMIAG), COSLA, Scottish Funding Council and industry bodies including PACT and Publishing Scotland.
