CO2 Transport Options for Scotland

This study by Scottish Enterprise highlights the fact that early investment in infrastructure could place Scotland at the forefront of the development of a global CO2 storage industry of the future.

The report sets out three scenarios for the development of CCS infrastructure covering the periods up to 2020, 2030, and 2040. It shows the potential to develop infrastructure and networks over this period to capture, transport and store CO2, not just from within Scotland but also from the North of England and from continental Europe, possibly by shipping.

Carbon capture and storage market opportunities

Findings from a Scottish Enterprise study have revealed the economic impact potential of the proposed carbon capture and storage (CCS) developments at Longannet, Peterhead and Hunterston.

The facilities, if fully developed, will test and demonstrate the technical and commercial aspects of CCS technology to then allow the deployment of CCS in existing and new fossil fuel power plants to dramatically reduce Scotland’s carbon emissions.

This report, produced for us and the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), says Scottish businesses in particular can capitalise on the opportunities presented by the growing need to tackle rising C02 emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels.
