Smart grids - Key enablers for renewables

By 2020, our aim is to make Scotland a low-carbon economy; generating all of our own electricity from renewable resources - creating jobs and increasing economic wealth.

To achieve this, we'll have to ensure that different energy forms (e.g. electricity, hydrogen) are integrated seamlessly. Smart Grids are key enablers for this transformation.


Smart Grid Sector Strategy - A Key Milestone

The Smart Grid Sector Strategy highlights:

  • Actions required to realise the vision
  • Opportunities for companies with Smart Grid capabilities

The strategy was developed by the Smart Grid Working Group, whose members are Scottish Power, SSE, GE Energy, University of Strathclyde, Cisco and Scottish Enterprise.

Launched in May 2013, this action plan outlines how the Smart Grid Working Group plans to realise its strategy.
