The Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service (SMAS) is staffed by manufacturing specialists with a proven track record of troubleshooting across a wide range of technologies and industrial sectors in Scotland.
Our practitioner team consists entirely of hands-on experts in process improvement, lean manufacturing, innovation and allied disciplines. They are practical, down-to-earth people with passion, commitment and a credible track record in improving manufacturing processes for bottom-line benefit. Barry Mole, Regional lead practitioner for the North of Scotland
Barry was educated to MBA level and has 20 years manufacturing experience working across the food & drink and electronics sectors. He has held senior positions in Kraft, NEC and Baxters Food Group.

Jerry O’Dwyer
Jerry is an Honours Graduate and an Associate in Metallurgy and Materials with 33 years experience up to Director level. Jerry set up a design and bespoke manufacturing supplier to the semiconductor industry and latterly was European Product Director for FSI.

Andrew Harrison
Andrew has held Senior operational, improvement and customer facing positions within a US Multi-National Blue-chip with responsibility for Order Fulfillment, Warehousing, IT, Service Management and Customer Service.

John Cadden

Jerome Finlayson, Regional lead practitioner for the East & South of Scotland
Having worked within the food and drink and pharmaceuticals sectors with companies such as Diageo, Johnson & Johnson (Ethicon) and Glenmorangie plc, Jerome has built up 15 years of operational management experience. Jerome also has experience within a consultancy role developing business efficiency programs with manufacturing organisations.

Alex Harte
Alex has over 16 years experience with electronics and engineering companies such as CTS Automotive, Honeywell and Jabil Circuits. His main focus has been in quality engineering, project management and he is practised in the deployment of Six Sigma.

Barry Munro

From a background in design and production engineering, David has over 25 years manufacturing management experience. Agnes Pollock
Agnes has over 20 years experience in senior production management with a high level of Lean implementation experience across all areas of the supply chain. This includes large FMCGs and SMEs, across manufacturing-cosmetics (Boots), food & drink, & engineering, as well as distribution and retail environments.

Chris Chapman
Chris has over 17 years senior management experience in international manufacturing business start up and development. Having served as an RAF Engineering Officer, Chris was also the MD and founder of Datum Dynamics in the UK, Hungary and USA.

Martin Breen
Martin has 20 years manufacturing experience, such as National Semiconductor, Seagate and Motorola in senior process engineering and continuous improvement positions. He performed this role for several companies making major yield and manufacturing improvements using Lean and Six Sigma DMAIC techniques, of which he is a fully trained Black Belt.

Robert Cowan
Robert has over 30 years manufacturing management experience covering production, engineering, quality and planning functions. He has work in the engineering and food and drinks sectors for companies including Rolls-Royce, Wilson Sporting Goods and Allied Domecq.
