Join us in our Data team and take the lead in defining, building and documenting Scottish Enterprise’s data architecture. You’ll be responsible for helping drive improvement in our data maturity, playing a pivotal role in shaping our digital transformation.

The role

Help us maximise the value of the large amounts of data that we hold. You’ll mostly be working as part of a small and dedicated team of data scientists and data engineers.

You’ll also work independently – this role is your chance to really extend your influence and the impact of your work across Scottish Enterprise systems and processes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding and documenting our current data architecture environment to maintain an accurate view of the data we hold across Scottish Enterprise
  • Advising, designing and developing solutions to help us get the most out of our data
  • Providing technical guidance and assurance to multiple stakeholders as part of the overall delivery of technical solutions

Who we're looking for

Your skills, abilities and experience should include:

  • Designing data architecture and aligning it to organisation-wide standards and principles
  • Explaining the concepts and principles of data modelling – producing, maintaining and updating data models, and reverse-engineering data models from a live system
  • Working with metadata repositories to complete complex tasks such as data and systems integration impact analysis – maintaining a repository to ensure information remains accurate
  • Working comfortably with Power BI, SQL Server Management Studio as well other Azure platform tools
  • Communicating data effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Undertaking data profiling and source system analysis, and presenting clear insights to colleagues
  • Understanding data governance, taking responsibility for the assurance of data solutions and making recommendations to ensure compliance
  • Showing an awareness of opportunities for innovation with new tools and uses of data
  • Initiating and monitoring actions to investigate patterns and trends, determining the appropriate remedy and assisting implementation, and determining preventative measures

Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:

  • An understanding of RStudio and experience of working with APIs
  • A curiosity for the potential application of AI technologies
