Managing People for Growth is a programme of workshops designed to help organisations maximize the potential of their people managers, to allow them to become fully effective and to give them the tools and attitudes to continue that development throughout their career.

The Managing People for Growth programme has three key elements:

Element 1 - Personal development plan

Purpose: To clarify development priorities

The personal development plan will be developed over the course of the Managing People for Growth workshops

  • Establish mutual expectations, including time to be committed to development
  • Identify specific goals and outcome measures

Element 2 - Workshops

Purpose: To provide new ideas and information to address development priorities

Six one-day action-focused workshops. These are designed around the provision of practical tools that can be applied back in the workplace.

1. The role of a manager and setting goals

  • Define the role and responsibilities of a people manager
  • Identify the skills, style and attributes of an effective people manager
  • Understand their current effectiveness in a management role, the future requirements of people managers and areas of personal strength and development
  • Understand their role in effectively using the existing skills of their staff
  • Understand the role of goal setting in achieving effective company/team performance and growth
  • Identify ways in which performance can be managed using time, meetings and other interactions more productively within the business

2. Managing individual performance to build high performing teams

  • Describe what performance management means and the role of appraisals
  • Set clear and realistic performance standards
  • Give and receive constructive feedback
  • Develop a systematic approach to prepare for and conduct appraisals
  • Identify and build on individuals existing skill set
  • Identify the characteristics of a good team and apply to build an effective team
  • Identify the stages of team growth, benchmark against it and identify action points
  • Identify own strengths and development areas as team leaders and identify personal action points
  • Maximise teams existing skills to build a high performing team and improve productivity

3. Communication, influencing & assertiveness skills

  • Improve and develop their communication skills
  • Understand the issues that employees have with communication
  • Understand and apply questioning approaches and techniques
  • Manage emotions and understanding body language for successful interpersonal communications
  • Agree actions for the communication process
  • Be introduced to the main skills and techniques of influencing
  • Understand the power of effective influencing
  • Identify their own strengths and development areas
  • Develop a plan/approach to help apply this learning back in the workplace

4. Coaching & delegation

  • Define coaching and coaching styles
  • Describe key techniques in coaching to maximise existing employee skills
  • Look at the link between coaching and delegation
  • Analyse their strengths and development areas as a coach
  • Develop a plan/approach to help apply this learning back in the workplace

5. Dealing with conflict & difficult people

  • Be able to prevent unnecessary conflicts
  • Be more effective at constructively resolving conflict
  • Be more effective at constructively resolving conflict
  • Be able to manage problem behaviours more effectively

6. Change management & innovation

  • Understand the nature of organisational change and transition and why a methodology for facilitating the acceptance of change is important
  • Identify suitable techniques to assess a change situation and understand how to apply appropriate elements of the model and tools suggested
  • Understand how to create and manage a culture of innovation within your team/organisation
  • Understand the potential supports and barriers to innovation
  • Develop a plan/approach to help apply this learning back in the workplace

Element 3 - Review/feedback session

Purpose: To review progress made, celebrate success, and identify additional development needs

Review workshop, which includes short presentations from each participant on what they have achieved throughout the programme.

The workshops cost £400 + VAT per person for the set of workshops.

Payment must be made in advance of attending the workshops, details of payment methods will follow after workshop registration.
