How our support, and making the most of Scotland's business support network, helped a Scottish cycling company grow into a global brand leader.

Based in Midlothian, Service Course operates bespoke, pro-led cycling camps and tours for corporate and consumer cyclists.

Led by GB performance coaches, Brynley Davies and Mark McKay, the company has made the most of Scotland's connected and collaborative business support network.

With a current turnover of more than £250k, and a move into the luxury cycling holiday market, the company looks to grow its income substantially over the next few years.

Business support making the difference

Brynley and Mark, who started the company in 2013, took advantage of business support services right from the start. In the company’s early days, they joined the Edinburgh Entrepreneurial Spark programme, giving them free access to permanent office space and ongoing start-up support.

They also took advantage of free business courses from Business Gateway and had help from a Business Gateway advisor to help them secure funding. This led to Service Course receiving one of our Make it to Market grants, and a Digital Scotland voucher, which meant they could re-brand and launch a new mobile-responsive website.

The company also successfully applied to our Growth Pipeline programme, receiving support on strategy, market and organisational development, business improvement and investment.

A global takeover

Brynley and Mark now have a strong infrastructure and a growing business. Thanks to their focused leadership, industry know-how and the support they received from Scottish Enterprise and partners, they are now taking cyclists all over the most beautiful parts of the UK, Europe and America.

Service Course continues to grow and Brynley and Mark are now focused on making the company the place to book all-inclusive cycling holidays, corporate camps, events and tours.
