Scottish Enterprise (SE) is Scotland’s national economic development agency and a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. To deliver a significant, lasting effect on the Scottish economy, we work with partners in the public and private sectors to find and exploit the best opportunities. Scottish Enterprise is committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, creating more quality jobs and a brighter future in every region.

We’re seeking a motivated Account Manager to join the Scaling Services Team within Scottish Economic Development. You’ll work closely with early stage companies as they focus on activities that support Scotland’s future economy.

The difference you'll make

You will build a portfolio of around 16 innovative and disruptive companies with scale up ambitions, and the potential to help grow the Scottish economy. You’ll develop strategic relationships with these companies, helping them to deliver their key outcomes – particularly in creating jobs, contributing to Scotland’s Net Zero ambitions and knowing how to leverage their wider impact within their supply chains.

As part of SE’s Scottish Economic Development Directorate, you will use your client-facing scale up expertise to help develop economic opportunities, national programmes and place-based projects.

You will also contribute to the success of the Strategic Investment Directorate, helping to build scalable companies and investable propositions.

The qualities you'll bring

You will have experience in working strategically with senior company leaders and boards, and have a strong understanding of the investment landscape. Knowing the challenges and opportunities scale ups face – and how to overcome them – is a must.

Essential skills, abilities and experience

  • Strong economic development skills
  • High level of communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong networking and deal-making skills
  • Experience of working strategically with company leaders
  • Comfortable with the investment landscape and company finance

Desirable skills

  • Background, experience or interest in one of the national programme themes
  • Knowledge of Scotland’s economic assets – such as innovation centres and place-based investments
  • Knowledge of start-up and scale-up partners and the environment
  • Ability to prioritise and manage time and resource effectively

Driving to work will eventually be essential, in-line with Government guidance on COVID-19 restrictions.

Interviews

  • 1st stage interviews will be held on 4/6 August
  • 2nd stage interviews will be held on 12/13 August

Covid-19 update

This role is temporarily remote due to Covid-19.

Due to the current global pandemic all of our people are currently working remotely. We will continue to follow government guidance to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our employees, partners and customers. The selection process will also be undertaken virtually.
