Scottish Development International (SDI) helps international companies invest, grow and create jobs in Scotland. We also help Scottish businesses to access international trade and global markets. At Scotland House London we focus on inward investment with a geographical remit that spans the UK.

Scotland may be small, but punches well above its weight at an international level. Our mission is to tell that story.

The difference you'll make

Working alongside and supporting senior colleagues, you’ll develop your own portfolio of target companies for inward investment. You’ll assume responsibility for the entire process, from identifying prospects to developing the case for them to invest in Scotland. To succeed, you’ll grow your understanding of the factors that influence where international businesses choose to locate – and provide them with access to information, contacts and government incentives to help influence their decision making.

Relationships are at the very heart of this role. You’ll engage with companies who are thinking about establishing a business operation in Scotland, and existing investors considering expansion. You’ll build a strong network of UK-based influencers and decision-makers who represent globally-headquartered companies. Your main focus will be the technology (particularly IT and software) and financial and business services sectors.

Based in central London, you’ll occasionally need to work flexible hours, with some business travel predominantly within the UK.

The qualities you'll bring

You’ll have experience in a sales or business facing role, and be able to develop strong personal relationships and engage credibly and effectively with business customers who have complex needs. Previous experience within an economic development or investment promotion role, or exposure to the technology or financial and business services sectors, would be an advantage.

Importantly, you’ll have the drive, initiative and ambition to take your client facing skills to the next level within an international business environment.

What you'll get in return

The opportunity to join a Sunday Times Top 100 not-for-profit organisation and to make a positive impact for jobs and Scotland’s economy. A flexible, collaborative and inclusive work environment within newly-fitted offices in Blackfriars on the banks of the Thames, with secure cycle storage, showers and towel service. There’s a final salary pension scheme and generous holiday allowance, with excellent support given for personal and professional development.
