Scottish Enterprise (SE) is Scotland’s national economic development agency. We help Scottish businesses to grow nationally and internationally, to become more efficient and innovative, and to access the funds they need to develop. We also attract overseas companies to invest in Scotland.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recently qualified accountant to take the first steps in a rewarding career with a renowned organisation. You’ll work within the Accounting Services team across all aspects of financial reporting, including the Scottish Enterprise Group Annual Report and Accounts, statutory tax returns, and outturn reporting to the Scottish Government.

The difference you'll make

You’ll play a key role in delivering the financial reporting requirements of Scottish Enterprise and its subsidiaries, providing support and insight to colleagues in Scotland and overseas. You’ll develop your practical knowledge of reporting, following International Accounting Standards, UK GAAP, and the Government’s public sector guidance.

As part of the Accounting Services team, you’ll produce high-quality working papers for assigned accounts areas and you’ll help prepare – and submit for audit – the annual accounts for Scottish Enterprise and its subsidiary companies.

Working with external auditors including Audit Scotland, you’ll provide supplementary information and respond to audit queries as required.

You'll also prepare and file corporation tax computations and submit VAT returns to HMRC.

The qualities you'll bring

As a member of a Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) Institute, or equivalent, you will be a strategic thinker with an appreciation of accounting standards and basic tax and VAT principles. You possess a keen eye for detail and are able to produce accurate and reliable finance records even when deadlines are tight.

You’re ready to grow your career in the public sector and expand your expertise as an integral member of a high-performing team. Whether it’s an issue with accounting policy, regulatory compliance, tax consequences or project development, you’re always on hand to support your colleagues and offer insight where needed.
