Job description

Job title: Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage Specialist
Salary: £42,276
Location: Flexible within any SE Office in Scotland

Grade: 6
Duration: Permanent
Closing date: 27 September 2021
Job ref no: R00125

Scottish Enterprise (SE) is Scotland’s national economic development agency and a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. To deliver a significant, lasting effect on the Scottish economy, we work with partners in the public and private sectors to find and exploit the best opportunities. Scottish Enterprise is committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, creating more quality jobs and a brighter future in every region.

We’re looking for a motivated individual to lead our Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) activity. This is part of a wider recruitment programme by our Low Carbon team to capitalise on key opportunities. It provides a chance for the right candidate to make a major contribution to Scotland’s transition to net zero.

The difference you'll make

You will develop and deliver a programme of CCUS activity that is suitably aligned to government policy while addressing the needs of industry. This involves working closely with Scottish Government, industry figures, academia and other external stakeholders.

Your approach will be shaped by your robust assessment of the emerging economic opportunities in this area, such as Carbon Dioxide Utilisation and Carbon Dioxide Importation. You will develop a clear understanding of Scotland’s competitive position and supply chain capability to create a prospectus of our capability – setting out clear economic justification for further investment.

You’ll engage with stakeholders and build partnerships across the UK and EU to develop action plans and pursue external funding sources. Within SE, you’ll identify and support energy initiatives focused on internationalisation, innovation and investment that will help deliver benefits to Scotland.

You will represent SE on the steering committee for Scottish Carbon Capture and Storage as well as various technical and policy working groups and university-led research projects.

The qualities you'll bring

You’ll need proven experience in project management and a keen understanding of commercial and economic development issues. Knowledge of the energy sector and European funding procedures would also be helpful.

This is a complex area of activity. It requires excellent problem solving, negotiation and facilitation abilities. Additionally, your excellent communication skills will mean you’re confident working with a diverse group of stakeholders, influencing senior figures, and building long-term relationships with partners and companies.

Most of all, you will be enthusiastic about working as part of a team, and keen to deliver results and make a real difference in Scotland’s transition to net zero.
