Job title: Engagement Partner x 2 - International Visits
Salary: £40,638
Location: Glasgow, Edinburgh or Paisley
Department: International Networks
Grade: 6
Duration: Permanent
Closing date: 23 September 2019
Job ref no: R00006

Scottish Development International (SDI) helps international companies invest and thrive in Scotland, and supports Scottish companies to trade in global markets.

You’ll be working with SDI’s International Visits team – to develop overseas visit programmes for the Scottish Enterprise (SE) CEO and Scottish Government ministers, including Scotland’s First Minister. These visits directly support trade and investment objectives, and play a crucial part in boosting Scotland’s role in the global economy.

The difference you'll make

Working with colleagues across SE and our partner organisations, you will help make sure these international visits align with our strategic aims. You’ll identify opportunities for ministers and the SE CEO to support trade and investment objectives through company meetings, networking engagements, speaking opportunities and media relations. You’ll also provide advice and guidance on event management and visits logistics to ensure a consistently high-quality experience for the VIP.

Ahead of each visit, you will work closely with the team to prepare comprehensive briefing packs. These packs summarise critical information, pinpoint the key messages and provide insights on relevant issues. You will also write short high-level speeches for senior figures to deliver during events.

This role may require occasional overseas travel to provide direct support on visits.

The qualities you'll bring

You may have experience in a similar briefing role, or you might be working in PR or communications. Whatever your background, you’ll be comfortable managing projects and have a strong track-record of successful delivery. You will be adept at planning and have confidence to challenge ideas and take difficult decisions to support the organisation’s priorities.

A strong writer, you’ll be skilled in the art of distilling key messages from complex documents and repurposing them into speech-friendly soundbites that support our objectives.

Your first-rate communication and negotiation skills mean you’re comfortable building strategic relationships with senior figures. Crucially, you will be confident working on high profile initiatives, collaborating with partners, and balancing deadlines across multiple projects.

1st stage interviews will be held on 7 October

2nd stage interviews will be held on 11 October
