Scottish Enterprise (SE) is Scotland’s national economic development agency and a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. To deliver a significant, lasting effect on the Scottish economy, we work with partners in the public and private sectors to find and exploit the best opportunities. Scottish Enterprise is committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, creating more quality jobs and a brighter future in every region.

We’re looking for a motivated individual to join our Global Business Development team and help attract inward investment to Scotland. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a range of international businesses and help create jobs in communities across Scotland.

The difference you'll make

You’ll lead the design and delivery of a series of customer engagements, with a view to securing investment in Scotland. Your central role will be to work closely with existing or prospective international investors to progress opportunities through the sales process.

You’ll manage a portfolio of customer opportunities, and will present to investors the value they can find by locating in Scotland. You’ll also build and lead virtual teams across SE and external partners to support your approach where appropriate.

Working with colleagues and partners across Scotland, you’ll leverage internal and external resources to secure inward investment projects – this could include senior staff within Scottish Enterprise or Scottish Government officials.

By developing a strong knowledge of the opportunity areas highlighted in Scotland’s Inward Investment Plan, you’ll make sure we’re always pursuing the most promising opportunities.

The qualities you'll bring

A skilled communicator and negotiator, you’ll be able to develop strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, and will be confident influencing people at all levels. These traits will make you a natural when it comes to facilitating workshops and meetings.

You’ll relish solving problems and collaborating with others to find new solutions – calling on your expertise in consultative sales and business development practices.

You’ll need to understand Scotland’s key sectors, along with best practice in economic development and trade and investment. And you should have good knowledge of relevant networks and intermediaries, which you can use to leverage projects for Scotland.

You’ll sometimes need to travel within the UK to meet clients. There will also be infrequent visits to Scotland, so you can develop a better understanding of Scotland’s strengths in priority areas.

Covid-19 update

This role is temporarily remote due to Covid-19.

Due to the current global pandemic all of our people are currently working remotely. We will continue to follow government guidance to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our employees, partners and customers. The selection process will also be undertaken virtually.
