The Grant Management team is responsible for managing live, grant-funded projects from Scottish Enterprise’s larger financial schemes. A grant specialist helps ensure accurate drafting and issue of grant offer letters and assessment of grant claim submissions - making sure prompt payments are made to companies.

Grant specialists are pivotal in managing client relationships in the elements that relate to live grants. They also work closely with Scottish Enterprise colleagues and stakeholders in project delivery, proactively handling emerging changes and issues throughout the lifetime of projects.

Our specialists help ensure that compliance, finance and budgetary control is exercised when approving grant payments, mitigating the risk of project failure or reputational damage to Scottish Enterprise.

They also add value to colleagues responsible for policy-related aspects of grant schemes, by helping to apply appropriate financial and budget management skills, so that Scottish Enterprise can effectively implement and monitor its policy aspirations around funding intervention. 

The difference you'll make

In this role, you'll be working with a portfolio of live grants that will require a high level of financial and contractual understanding, as well as a sound relationship management approach. You'll work to ensure that grant payments are made to genuinely viable projects and for the specific purpose for which grant was offered.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of grant projects from contract through to final claim, and monitoring project progress and grant conditions
  • Advising and supporting colleagues and companies on conditions of grants and milestones
  • Examining, reviewing and evaluating claims
  • Determining the financial and commercial viability of projects and companies
  • Ensuring compliance with the terms and conditions of the grant
  • Authorising grant payments as appropriate
  • Ensuring compliance with guidelines and desk instructions
  • Reevaluating and renegotiating grant levels when projects significantly change 
  • Negotiating repayment of grant when there are breaches of the grant agreement
  • Monitoring completed projects during the period of conditions
  • Regular data-cleaning of the case information that's held in our grants database

The qualities you'll bring

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • An appreciation of business financial documentation and practice gained through appropriate professional qualification, a business banking background or through other relevant experience
  • A strong understanding of funding delivery mechanisms, as well as the processes in delivering funding to businesses
  • Demonstrable strong customer relationship management skills and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills (both written and oral) and relationship skills and experience - with the ability to hold discussions with external parties
  • A good level of organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Competent digital literacy with a working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications (like Word and Excel), and the ability to quickly develop proficiency in other software applications, such as our internal database systems
