Job description

Job title: High Value Manufacturing Specialist
Salary: £42,276
Location: Flexible within any SE Office in Scotland

Grade: 6
Duration: Permanent
Closing date: 27 September 2021
Job ref no: R00141

Scottish Enterprise (SE) is Scotland’s national economic development agency and a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. To deliver a significant, lasting effect on the Scottish economy, we work with partners in the public and private sectors to find and exploit the best opportunities. Scottish Enterprise is committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, creating more quality jobs and a brighter future in every region.

We’re looking for a motivated individual to join our High Value Manufacturing Team, and play a key role in transforming Scottish supply chains, bringing economic opportunities to Scotland and strengthening our manufacturing sector as a result – helping to grow the industry’s productivity, investment, innovation and international reach.

The difference you'll make

Your knowledge of manufacturing and supply chains will help identify new areas of manufacturing growth and any barriers restricting that growth. Working closely with the Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service (SMAS), you’ll help Scotland capitalise on high value opportunities, decarbonisation and low carbon transition initiatives, as well as supply chain development in important sectors such as aerospace, defence, and automotive.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you’ll develop a range of new initiatives to help the industry grow. This involves primary and secondary research to assess emerging areas of market opportunity and identify Scotland’s competitive advantages. You will then use this insight to develop our strategy.

Building relationships is crucial, and you’ll regularly engage with senior stakeholders and partners from across the industry, including trade bodies, academic institutions, Scottish and UK government, and Scottish Development International.

You’ll also work closely with colleagues across SE and partner organisations to develop a programme of activity, while actively supporting the objectives of the High Value Manufacturing Team.

The qualities you'll bring

You’ll be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience in manufacturing, engineering or a high-technology related subject. A strong understanding in at least one of these areas is essential.

A natural communicator, you’ll be comfortable networking and influencing senior stakeholders – especially when it comes to presenting information, both internally and externally.

You should have experience conducting market or technology analyses in a relevant sector and be confident analysing quantitative and qualitative information sets.

Ideally, we’d like someone with an understanding of digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0 adoption, along with a track record of strategy development for industry or public sector. Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and project management, especially in strategic communications, would be useful.
