Our Inclusive Models team helps businesses understand the alternative business models or succession options that could be right for them as part of a strategic change.

This is an opportunity to work within an area of increasing interest and a chance to play a part in inspiring, influencing and supporting businesses to adopt an inclusive business model.

Specialists are the face of Scottish Enterprise, working directly with businesses across Scotland. Working in project teams, or individually you will provide expert support to companies to help them review their ownership succession options or explore other inclusive business models such as cooperatives, consortia, employee ownership.

In this advisory role, you will undertake a review of organisation, work with professional partners to support the development of prioritised action plans linked to business objectives, and signpost to appropriate support mechanisms from across Scottish Enterprsie and partners.

The difference you'll make

  • You'll help businesses understand if employee ownership is right for their business – including the costs, tax implications, ownership structures, governance structures and timelines
  • Help businesses understand if a co-operative model is right for their business – including options, implications and legal structures
  • Offer practical support to businesses to develop a consortium co-operative – help finalising the memorandum and articles, registration with Companies House or FCA, and drafting a member’s agreement
  • Support community co-operatives to examine and consider the possibility of a viable community initiative and facilitate discussions between key community groups to agree a shared vision and approach
  • Offer advice to community co-operatives on potential legal structures, governance, management, funding and other issues
  • Respond to general enquiries relating to inclusive models, and signposting to sector partners, specialists and stakeholders as required to seek alternative solutions

The qualities you'll bring

  • An understanding and interest in the various kinds of fair and inclusive legal forms and organisational types. Such as Co-operative Community Interest Companies (CICs), Bencoms and Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisations (SCIOs) in addition to Employee-Owned CLS and Trusts employee ownership
  • Ability to recognise these forms and be able to advise companies around the set up and maintenance of these options
  • You’ll be an excellent relationship manager, with the ability to demonstrate credibility with others and achieve results through the development of strategic consultative relationships
  • A natural team player, you’ll be a good communicator and networker. You will also be confident working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and dealing with clients at the highest level in their organisation.
  • You might have experience of providing business advice and direction at a senior level or on a consultancy basis and be comfortable addressing a broad range of business challenges
