Scottish Development International (SDI) helps international companies invest and thrive in Scotland, and supports Scottish companies to trade in global markets.

We’re looking for a motivated individual to join our Global Business Development team to help attract inward investment to Scotland.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a range of international businesses and help create jobs in communities across Scotland.

The difference you'll make

You’ll lead the design and delivery of a series of customer engagement activities, with the aim of securing investment in Scotland. In this central role, you’ll work closely with existing or prospective international investors to identify and progress opportunities through the sales process.

You’ll manage a varied portfolio of customers, and present to them the value of setting up in Scotland. You’ll also build and lead virtual teams across Scottish Enterprise, and among external partners, to support your approach where appropriate.

Working with colleagues and partners across Scotland, you’ll leverage internal and external resources to secure inward investment projects. This could include working with senior staff within Scottish Enterprise or with Scottish Government Ministers.

By developing a strong knowledge of the opportunity areas highlighted in Scotland’s Inward Investment Plan, you’ll make sure we’re always pursuing the most promising opportunities.

The qualities you’ll bring

A skilled communicator and negotiator, you’ll be able to develop strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders while confidently engaging and influencing senior business contacts. These traits will make you a natural when it comes to leading meetings and presentations.

You’ll relish solving problems and collaborating with others to find new solutions, using your expertise in consultative sales and business development practices.

You’ll understand Scotland’s key sectors, along with best practice in economic development and inward investment. You should also have a good knowledge of relevant networks and intermediaries which you can use to leverage projects for Scotland.

You’ll sometimes need to travel within the UK to meet clients. There will be infrequent visits to Scotland, helping you develop a better understanding of Scotland’s strengths in priority areas.
