Grade: 6

Scottish Development International (SDI) helps international companies invest and thrive in Scotland, and supports Scottish companies to trade in global markets.

We are seeking a full-time International Trade Specialist to proactively contribute to the globalisation of Scotland’s economy.

The difference you'll make

You will be a member of the SDI Technology team, which is part of the wider Science and Technology trade team. Working with companies to grow their presence in key overseas markets, you’ll be responsible for generating deeper engagement and ambition around international trade.

The role involves close collaboration with account managers, Business Gateway advisors, sector team members and trade networks from both SE and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). There will be a strong focus on working with SDI field colleagues in identifying trade development opportunities in the market, and helping more Scottish companies to drive exports and trade activity.

The qualities you'll bring

We’re looking for a confident, target-driven communicator who can build and maintain strong rapports with customers.

You should be at ease when presenting, project managing, and dealing with senior personnel. You will also have experience in international trade, providing business development services and working with SMEs. Knowledge and understanding of technology related sectors or an ability to rapidly acquire knowledge is key.

You’ll demonstrate a clear understanding of broad economic development issues. International business development experience would be a bonus. You should also have an Institute of Export qualification (ACIT), a defined equivalent from industry experience, or, as a minimum, a commitment to undertake this.

Event attendance outside of working hours will be required in this role, but we are dedicated to helping our staff maintain an appropriate work-life balance.

1st stage interviews will take place on 08 January 2020
