Job title: Loan Specialist
Salary: £47,282

Scottish Enterprise (SE) is Scotland’s national economic development agency and a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. To deliver a significant, lasting effect on the Scottish economy, we work with partners in the public and private sectors to find and exploit the best opportunities. Scottish Enterprise is committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, creating more quality jobs and a brighter future in every region.

We are now looking for a Loan Specialist who can help make a difference to our economy by supporting one growth-focused business at a time.

The difference you'll make

The Scottish Loan Scheme (SLS) supports qualifying companies with funds of up to £2 million. You’ll stimulate demand for the SLS by building relationships with businesses, intermediaries and funders.

For new loan applications, you’ll be involved in all aspects of the process – you’ll carry out the initial appraisal and diligence, build the business case for approval (including the economic case), structure the loan and lead the transaction to completion.

You’ll manage a portfolio of loans – that means reviewing financial information from borrowers, ensuring adherence by companies to loan terms and taking all necessary steps to manage risk across the portfolio. Some of this will involve working with our external solicitors to prepare loan and security documentation.

You’ll also use your business finance knowledge to help add value to and participate in broader SE projects.

The qualities you'll bring

You’ll be educated to degree level or hold an appropriate professional qualification in accountancy, banking or investment. In particular, you’ll have proven experience in lending to companies – most likely through a previous role in credit and risk assessment, loan appraisal, or banking relationship management.

Your technical abilities will be backed by strong communication, negotiation and networking skills.

You’ll be comfortable managing complex commercial loan transactions at a high volume, and be able to deal with sensitive situations with ease.

You’ll need to drive to meetings and events when it is safe to do so, so you will need a driver’s license and access to a car.

Interviews

  • 1st stage interviews will take place on 4 August 2021
  • 2nd stage interviews will take place on 11 August 2021

Covid-19 update

This role is temporarily remote due to Covid-19.

Due to the current global pandemic all of our people are currently working remotely. We will continue to follow government guidance to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our employees, partners and customers. The selection process will also be undertaken virtually.
