Local Energy Systems Specialist

Job description

Job title: Local Energy Systems Specialist
Salary: £42,276
Location: Flexible within any SE Office in Scotland
Department: Low Carbon Transition
Grade: 6
Duration: Permanent
Closing date: 27 September 2021
Job ref no: R00126

Scottish Enterprise (SE) is Scotland’s national economic development agency and a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. To deliver a significant, lasting effect on the Scottish economy, we work with partners in the public and private sectors to find and exploit the best opportunities. Scottish Enterprise is committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, creating more quality jobs and a brighter future in every region.

We’re looking for a motivated individual to lead our Local Energy Systems (LES) activity. This is part of a wider recruitment programme by our Low Carbon team to capitalise on key opportunities and provides a chance for the right candidate to make a major contribution to Scotland’s transition to net zero.

The difference you'll make

You will develop and deliver a programme of LES activity that is suitably aligned to government policy while addressing the needs of industry, as agreed by the LES Programme Board. This involves working closely with Scottish Government, industry figures, academia and other external stakeholders.

As a key contact for the Local Energy Systems Industry Network (LESSIN), you’ll regularly attend meetings and deliver presentations. You’ll also lead SE’s approach to developing supply chain activity around LES.

You’ll work with various teams across SE – including innovation, global accounts and business services – to develop a programme approach to LES. Your knowledge means you’ll also contribute to our other Low Carbon Transition programmes – with an immediate emphasis on our approach to net zero heavy duty vehicles.

You’ll maintain and develop key relationships with Scottish and UK governments, with a particular focus on funding streams and sector opportunities. You’ll also develop partnerships with Scotland Europa and wider European policy and funding resources.

The qualities you'll bring

You’ll need strong experience in project management, particularly in delivering multi-partner projects.

Your excellent communication skills mean you’re confident working with diverse stakeholders, influencing decisions and building long-term relationships with partners and companies.

Ideally, you’ll have a keen understanding of commercial and economic development issues. Knowledge of the energy sector and European funding procedures would also be helpful.

Most of all, you will be enthusiastic about working as part of a team, keen to deliver results and make a real difference in Scotland’s transition to net zero.
