Project Origination Manager

Job description

Job title: Project Origination Manager
Salary: £42,276
Location: Any Scottish Enterprise office in Scotland or London
Department: Capital Investments
Grade: 6
Duration: Fixed term of 23 months
Closing date: 21 February 2022
Job ref no: R00145

Scottish Development International (SDI) helps international companies invest and thrive in Scotland and supports Scottish companies to trade in global markets.

Our Capital Investment Team is seeking a highly motivated Project Origination Manager to identify and promote investment opportunities internationally, across strategically aligned sectors. Our portfolio covers company and project opportunities across multiple areas such as low-carbon transition, cleantech, circular economy, tech, digital, health and life sciences, and advanced manufacturing.

We're committed to an investment-led recovery for Scotland. This role will help attract capital aligned to our values as a nation – driving green investment, opportunities for everyone and facilitating sustainable growth for the Scottish economy.

The difference you'll make

You’ll identify, assess, and shape the pipeline of new viable and investable opportunities which are then presented to international investors as capital investment opportunities for Scotland. Promotion of these opportunities will range from facilitating investor calls to supporting pitching events as well as attending important events.

You’ll be working as part of a small team which focuses on company opportunity origination and promotion. You'll be responsible for understanding these capital investment opportunities including making recommendations on financial or advisory inputs that may be required to support the investment case. You'll then identify and engaging with potential investors alongside our Investor Relations Manager.

The qualities you'll bring

We need someone with sound analytical and financial acumen, along with strong networking and relationship building skills – ideally with a degree in finance, accountancy, or extensive experience in the financial services sector.

You’ll bring a sound understanding of strategic government policies, and how those priorities drive requirements, strategies, operational and transactional methods for securing inward capital investment.

You’ll need a proven ability to not only understand complex commercial transactions, but to assess the underlying data that drives effective decision-making in assessing whether new propositions are commercially viable to be of interest to Capital Investors. Crucially, you must be able to then break this information down and present it to stakeholders in a way that is easy to understand.

You will be confident working on high profile initiatives, collaborating with internal and external partners, and balancing priorities across multiple projects. You must be comfortable in providing feedback and advice to company directors and board members.

You will occasionally need to work outside normal office hours as we work with international partners. The role will involve regular travel to London and the possibility of international travel to attend and host events and to meet with stakeholders.
