Job description

Job Title: Social Media Specialist
Location: Flexible within any Scottish Enterprise office in Scotland
Salary: £42,276 (pro rata)
Department: Marketing and Engagement
Grade: 6
Duration: Permanent
Closing date: 28 September 2021

Scottish Enterprise is Scotland’s national economic development agency and a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government.

To deliver a significant, lasting effect on the Scottish economy, we work with partners in the public and private sectors to find and exploit the best opportunities. Scottish Enterprise is committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, creating more quality jobs and a brighter future in every region.

We are looking for a strong writer and editor who lives and breathes social media. We need someone with a creative yet analytical eye, who knows how to build an online community.

This is a part-time role, with 28 hours of work per week.

The difference you'll make

As part of the Content and Channel Engagement Team, you will use social media to help our customers, attract investment to Scotland, promote our business support services and encourage colleagues to spread the word about the good work Scottish Enterprise is doing for Scotland.

By coordinating and implementing a well-informed social media strategy, you will deliver campaigns that make a direct difference to the lives and businesses of people living in Scotland. You will help promote Scotland as an excellent place to conduct business, and develop content for both domestic and international audiences.

You will run campaigns across multiple markets, changing formats across channels as necessary. You’ll be working in a dynamic environment – you may be filming stories and reels one day, and planning content calendars the next. You will spend a lot of time writing and overseeing posts that make users want to learn more about who we are and how we could help them.

The qualities you’ll bring

Your editorial skills are solid. You might be working in an online media environment or creative agency – and you’ll have plenty of experience in what makes good digital content.

Working on large campaigns won’t phase you – and you’ll have a decent grounding in the principles of community engagement, adapting voice for different platforms, and social media listening tools. Good working knowledge of Instagram in particular, would be useful.

You’ll be confident and diplomatic when it comes to communicating with stakeholders, both internally and outside the organisation. Most of all, you’ll be able to cut straight to the point – making sure our digital content is as clear and concise as it can be.

You will also be happy to coach other team members on all things social media, and be keen to build company-wide excitement around our social media offering.

How to apply

If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, please submit your application by Tuesday 28 September 2021.

  • 1st stage interviews will be held on 11-12 October 2021

We place value on work/life balance in our employment package

We offer a range of benefits, financial and non-financial, designed to reflect our culture and recognise, reward and develop you through your career. We understand that applicants have different needs and preferences. Our strategy encourages a personal approach, recognising working life, wellbeing, planning for the future and lifestyle.

This strategy has also been acknowledged with external awards and accreditations including Investors in People, Stonewall Scotland and Best Companies.

We’ve been awarded two Princess Royal Excellence Awards for our activity in promoting a resonant culture across the organisation, as well as for our youth development and engagement programmes.

We are currently developing our working practices for when offices re-open. We aim to create a flexible work environment where work is an activity, not a set place or defined hours.

With this in mind, we expect that you will have the option to continue to work remotely within the UK or at your base location. You will remain available for face-to-face visits and meetings at SE offices or other locations as appropriate.
