Scottish Enterprise is Scotland’s national economic development agency and a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. To deliver a significant, lasting effect on the Scottish economy, we work with partners in the public and private sectors to find and exploit the best opportunities. Scottish Enterprise is committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, creating more quality jobs and a brighter future in every region.

This is a priority role, where you'll work as a specialist to help us deliver our new Hydrogen Strategic Programme. It requires someone with the ability to interpret Scottish Government policy into our projects and programmes, engaging with senior-level stakeholders and industry to unlock opportunities.

Right now, there is a major opportunity to be delivered and very high expectations of Scottish Enterprise from internal and external stakeholders, given the scale and significance of this opportunity. This is a complex area of activity, which will require the post-holder to support work across the Scottish and UK Governments and the business sector (particularly in oil and gas). You'll work to build a cluster alliance and you'll be responsible for coordinating activities among supply chain executives.

If successful, you'll work with a Team Leader and a growing wider team to deliver this agenda. With the Team Leader directing overall activity, you'll have a central role in delivering some of the most important projects identified in the Hydrogen action plan – including sector development work, research and evidence, and stakeholder engagement.

The post-holder will also support and manage a series of interconnected workstreams, drawing in collaborative partners from across Scottish Enterprise and key stakeholders as well as the wider industries.

The difference you'll make

This role requires someone with excellent problem-solving, prioritisation, project management, communication, negotiation and facilitation skills.

With the development of the Hydrogen Economy National Programme and the launch of the Scottish Government's hydrogen action plan, filling this post is crucial. It will allow us to address the increasing demand for stakeholder engagement, both internally and externally.

You'll be joining a dynamic team of specialists who have a real passion for making a difference. Hydrogen is happening - and your work will be focused helping Scottish companies make real, sustainable changes.

Because of the types of project and company support currently in demand (especially by global companies), you'll be focusing on some key aspects of activity, including:

  • Working as a strategic lead, assessing the demand for hydrogen in transport and heat, to identify emerging opportunities and company supply chain capability alongside other National Programme stakeholders
  • Working as a European and external funding lead for Scottish Enterprise in the development of hydrogen-related innovation programmes
  • Delivering on the ambitions of the Hydrogen Economy National Programme as a specialist sector lead, working with key parts of Scottish Enterprise and its partners,  including growth investment, opportunity management, and place or regional partnerships.
  • Working to aid in the delivery of strategic projects, such as the equity fund and Innovation Network, in line with National Programme

The qualities you'll bring

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Experience of project management, particularly multi-partner project management
  • Demonstrable influencing skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to build long-term relationships with partners and companies
  • Knowledge of the energy sector, as well as Europe and external funding

Most of all, you'll be enthusiastic, excited about good teamwork and keen to develop your skills. If you're ready to join a busy team and eager to get on with delivering results, this role is for you.

How to apply

If you're interested in this role, please send us your application form by 20 January 2022.
