Salary: £55,200 - £63,858
Location: Glasgow, flexible working options

Scottish Enterprise is Scotland’s national economic development agency and a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. To deliver a significant, lasting effect on the Scottish economy, we work with partners in the public and private sectors to find and exploit the best opportunities. Scottish Enterprise is committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, creating more quality jobs and a brighter future in every region.

We’re looking for a talented Specialist Software Developer to work with us on challenging and innovative digital programmes that are transforming how we work with businesses.

You’ll work with a multi-skilled, talented, passionate and committed team. There are high expectations and multiple demands, so you’ll have a real opportunity to be involved in important and valued projects.

The difference you'll make

Working within multidisciplinary project teams, you'll scope, develop and maintain technical solutions to directly support and transform the core business of Scottish Enterprise. This could include customer facing platforms as well as internal systems which process data.

You'll work alongside another Senior Software Developer, and will both be responsible for mentoring and managing a team of software developers, as well as engaging with contract developers to ensure delivery by third parties meets the desired standards.

You'll join the Service Delivery Team which is made up of a software development team and a testing team, including feature testers and automation dev-in-test. This is part of a larger directorate with specialists in Service Design (including user researchers, UX/UI and Service Designers) and Business Analysis.

There is also a Power Platform team that specialises in Microsoft Power Platform and our Dynamics CRM system. You will often work alongside them on integration (for example, customer data from web front end being passed to Dynamic CRM via Power App for processing by staff). We are also supported by a Service Adoption team to help roll out new services and a Service Assurance team who you'll work closely with to ensure security and stability of services as they are developed.

The qualities you'll bring

You'll have the following necessary skills and experience:

  • Backend web development using Net (C#), Umbraco (7/8/9) and MS SQL Server
  • Building/supporting Azure App Services, Function Apps, Blob Storage Containers and SQL Azure Databases
  • Familiar with CI/CD practices, preferably using TeamCity or Azure DevOps
  • Understanding of object orientated design principles and IoC/DI patterns
  • Practical understanding of REST principles and API design patterns
  • Experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Familiar with front-end frameworks (preferably Angular) as well as build tools including Gulp and Webpack
  • Understanding of GIT, and different branching techniques, to support build and delivery
  • Understanding of web security and secure development principles
  • Understanding of accessibility practices and implementation strategies (as a public sector organisation, it is a legal requirement for all of our services to be fully accessible and we build with accessibility in mind from the start rather than address this as part of a post build review)
  • Understanding of SEO considerations and development implications
  • Understanding of Testing techniques, including unit tests, mocking and TDD

The following skills and experience would also be beneficial:

  • Experience with Azure services such as Azure B2C, Key Vault, RBAC, ARM Templates, Cosmos DB, Application Insights, API Management, Application Gateway, Logic Apps, Virtual machines and Virtual networks
  • Familiar with both relational databases and NoSQL design
  • Experience extending the Umbraco back office (e.g. using property editors, dashboards and/or content apps)
  • Understanding of responsive web design and awareness of cross-browser/platform limitations
  • Experience building APIs in a microservices architecture
  • Experience producing code libraries using NuGet and/or NPM
  • Experience with automated scripting tools, preferably PowerShell
  • Experience with JavaScript state management tools such as Redux
