Scottish Enterprise (SE) is Scotland’s national economic development agency and a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. To deliver a significant, lasting effect on the Scottish economy, we work with partners in the public and private sectors to find and exploit the best opportunities. Scottish Enterprise is committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, creating more quality jobs and a brighter future in every region.

We’re seeking an experienced team leader for our debt team to help provide innovative funding packages to support companies playing an important role in Scotland’s economic recovery, growth and transition to net zero.

The difference you'll make

As Debt Team Leader, you’ll manage a team of specialists that structure and perform complex debt transactions from the Scottish Loan Scheme (SLS). You’ll lead on the strategic direction, co-ordination and delivery of the SLS and any newly created debt products. And, you’ll have ultimate responsibility for delivery and management of the loan portfolio.

As well as guiding strategy, you’ll regularly provide detailed advice on deal approval, structuring, negotiation, and legal completion to colleagues and partners.

A key part of role is to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, internally and externally. You’ll be proactive in promoting SLS – often representing the scheme and SE at events with presentations and panel appearances.

You’ll use your contacts to make valuable introductions between SE, the investment community and industry leaders – taking opportunities to boost SE’s profile and continue the delivery of impactful funding.

You’ll also help realise the potential of your team members through performance management, coaching and team-building activities.

The qualities you'll bring

The role requires experience of providing commercial loans and an awareness of economically led lending, so you should be educated to degree level with an appropriate qualification in accountancy, banking, law or investment. You’ll also need extensive experience of debt structuring and portfolio management in a corporate finance or banking environment.

A gifted communicator, you’ll naturally build new relationships and have the confidence to influence decision-making at a strategic level and challenge where appropriate.

Your strong analytical skills and ability to find creative solutions to unique funding situations will encourage those around you to explore different approaches.

You should be confident networking and recognise the importance of being visible within the Scottish investment community. Ideally, you will bring a network of contacts in the Scottish funding market from your previous roles.
