Scottish Enterprise is Scotland’s national economic development agency and a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. To deliver a significant, lasting effect on the Scottish economy, we work with partners in the public and private sectors to find and exploit the best opportunities. Scottish Enterprise is committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, creating more quality jobs and a brighter future in every region.

The difference you'll make

Scottish Enterprise's Grant Management team works to manage the grant-funded projects that come out of the organisation's larger financial schemes. Grant managers help ensure accurate drafting and issue of grant offer letters and assessment of grant claim submissions — ensuring prompt payments are made to companies.

This role will largely involve working with a portfolio of live grants that require high levels of financial and contractual understanding, as well as a sound relationship management approach.

The position also comes with leadership responsibilities. If successful, you'll be expected to manage around four team members. You'll also be responsible for supporting them in their roles and development.

At Scottish Enterprise, grant managers are pivotal in managing client relationships in areas relating to live grants. They work closely with colleagues and stakeholders in project delivery, proactively managing changes and issues throughout the lifetime of projects.

They help ensure that compliance, finance and budgetary control is considered when approving grant payments. This helps mitigate the risk of project failure or reputational damage.

They also provide value to other colleagues responsible for the policy-related aspects of grant schemes. Grant managers ensure that the right financial and budget management skills are used to help Scottish Enterprise implement and monitor its policy aspirations around funding interventions.

We're moving towards the design and implementation of a new digital system for grants delivery. There will be opportunities to provide input about its development. You'll also get a chance to lead in the change management approach needed to help the team adapt to new ways of working.

The qualities you'll bring

For this role, we're looking for someone with:

  • Experience leading teams or complex projects that require influence and collaboration
  • A good understanding of company funding delivery mechanisms - including application, appraisal, contracting and claims payment processes
  • Strong customer relationship management skills - with the ability to manage complex, difficult or sensitive customer situations
  • Skills in communicating with customers and stakeholders at all levels, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • The ability to develop a motivated, engaged and highly skilled team, with a focus on coaching and continuous improvement through learning and development
  • Corporate finance skills and experience - the ability to analyse and assess financial statements and business-related documentation (backed by professional qualification)
  • Experience of financial and performance reporting with the ability to create, analyse, explain and convey complex information (both orally and in writing)
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing change management principles
